We’re Hiring – Farm Lead Hand
About the Position
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Farm Lead Hand to help manage our organic market garden and greenhouse operations. This role involves working closely with management on the planning, planting, cultivation, and harvesting of crops, as well as coordinating produce for farmers’ markets, special events, our CSA box program, and farmgate sales. We are looking for someone who is physically fit, enthusiastic about growing food, and eager to learn through hands-on experience while helping us strengthen and grow our farm community. Throughout the season, we offer a number of educational workshops at no cost to team members.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing market gardens and greenhouse operations
- Experience with organic and biodynamic farming practices (considered an asset)
- Passion for organic, sustainable, and regenerative agriculture
- Physically capable of working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to supervise helpers and volunteers
- Team-oriented, personable, and community-minded
Work Schedule
April through to November
Monday to Friday – 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
(6 paid hours per day with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break)
Opportunity for additional hours.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Attend weekly Monday morning planning meetings
- Assist in overseeing daily operations of the market gardens and greenhouses
- Participate in planning and implementing crop rotations, planting schedules, transplanting, and harvesting
- Support seed starting, soil health management, composting, and organic/biodynamic pest, disease, and weed management
- Assist with irrigation setup and maintenance, tarp management, and mulching of vegetable rows
- Help stack square bales during hay season
- Coordinate and assist with harvesting, washing, and packing produce for farmers’ markets and CSA distribution
- Supervise seasonal volunteers and/or interns
- Monitor supply needs and maintain farm records
- Ensure health and safety standards are upheld at all times
- Communicate regularly with management

Compensation
Compensation will be discussed and negotiated based on experience, responsibilities, schedule, and living arrangements. We offer flexible options to live and work on the farm where suitable.
