MAY NEWSLETTER

The weather for the month of April has been unexpectedly colder than normal.  By now we should have ad a lot of our seedlings outside adjusting to the weather so that we can transplant.  Thus, we are a little behind schedule in getting seedlings ready for sale as well as getting our own gardens going.  We are hoping for warmer and more cooperative weather during the month of May to put us back on schedule.

COVID-19 Farmgate SignOur new COVID-19 gate sign has arrived. When you come to the farm to pick up your CSA box or orders, come up the laneway to the farmhouse gate. Stop There - Ring the Bell or Honk Your Horn. We will come and bring your order or box out to you.

Please note that neither Aric or Kathryn carry cell phones on them when they are working around the farm, so calling, emailing or texting to let us know that you have arrived may or may not work.

We apologize for any inconveniences that this procedure may cause, just know that we are doing our best to service you and make sure that we are all safe and well in the process.

Orders and Pick Up Dates

We are currently being inundated with email and phone in orders with people picking up whenever it is convenient to them.  This is okay for now, but as we move into the growing season where we need to spend as much time out in the garden, greenhouse and fields and possible, we are asking that people start to adhere to what we will be putting into place as we move forward into those hard working days.  Please understand that farming is hard work and everyday is a work day on the farm.  Chores are done before 9am and after 4pm.  That is why we are asking you to pick up between 9am and 4pm.

Sundays - place your orders by phone 613-478-3876 or email info@earthhaven.ca.  This applies to CSA members that would like to have extra items added to their regular box such as eggs, meat, lard, craft items, etc.

Mondays - picking day - produce will be picked from the fields, washed, and packaged according to CSA boxes and individual customer orders.

Tuesdays - CSA members with pickups in Tweed can pick anytime after 3pm.  Foxboro drop off can pick up after 3:30pm.  Individual orders can also be picked up at the farm anytime after 2pm.

Wednesdays - farm work day

Thursdays - place your orders by phone 613-478-3876 or email info@earthhaven.ca.  This applies to CSA members that would like to have extra items added to their regular box such as eggs, meat, lard, craft items, etc

Fridays - picking day - produce will be picked from the fields, washed, and packaged according to CSA boxes and individual customer orders.

Saturdays - CSA members with pickups at Earth Haven Farm and individuals with custom orders can pick up anytime after 9am.

Toronto Customers

As we notified everyone in our previous newsletters, we will not be attending our usual farmers markets in Toronto (Evergreen Brickworks and The Village Market).  We have been approached by the Easy Health Food Store located at 1276 Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario, M6H 1N8, 416-474-2526 to supply them with selection of our meat, fruit, vegetables, and herb products throughout the coming year.  This is a win-win for us during this COVID-19 time, as we can still supply our Toronto customers, and comply with COVID-19 restrictions by not coming into direct contact with customers.

Store Review - "I absolutely love this store! Wholesome owners who have done an amazing job curating a store full of high quality products; from organic produce to ethically raised local meats, to great dry goods and staples. If you live in the area or find yourself in the neighbourhood you need to stop in and enjoy it for yourself!"

Volunteers Wanted

It seems that every year we are short on workers and volunteers and this year is no exception.  With the COVID-19 restrictions we will not be able to get WOOFers or people through the Work-A-Way programs.

Anyone local wishing to volunteer their time to help out in the greenhouse, gardens, mulching, or just on picking days would be greatly welcome and appreciated.

Reminder - the best experience is that which is acquired through the doing!

Remember to follow us on Facebook, for what is happening on the farm, and updates as to what is available, changes, etc.  We will be sending out newsletters on a more frequent basis as well.   Click Here

Let's Be The Change - - This is a wonderful time for people to come together as a community and support each other.

Reminder to think about conserving, producing less waste, not being the heavy consumers that we have been in the past.  Let us think about the four R’s – recycle, reduce, reuse and repair.  Let us think about health, well-being and treating the earth and ourselves with kindness and compassion.

Let’s make these coming months a time of coming together (while maintaining a healthy distance) to build a more resilient, sustainable, locally-based food system.  Let’s build the world we want to create together.
